A Day at Sea

Almost seven years ago, I  went on my first (and only) cruise.  My parents were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and thought it would be great if all their kids and spouses went on an Alaskan cruise together. So we did.Being a cruise novice, there were many things that were new to me.  One of them was the term day-at-sea.  Normally, Brian and I are movers and shakers on vacation.  We have limited time so we try to pack in as much fun and adventure as we can.  Days at sea are the complete opposite.  You literally have a day where you are on the boat all day long...no stops, no excursions, no nothing.Honestly, both of us hated those days.  We got bored.  We felt antsy.  We should be DOING something!  I felt like I was wasting my vacation.  In the end, we had a great time...even with the days at sea.A few days ago, I decided to get my nails done.  I have awful nails that break and split often, and I had had enough.  I went to my gym since there is a spa inside.  My plan was to get my nails done, go workout, and get on with the endless things I had to do.As my appointment was nearing its end, the lady doing my manicure asked if I wanted a pedicure also?  I declined.  I had plans. And then something unexpected happened.  I heard myself saying yes to the pedicure!  What was happening?  All of a sudden, I was sitting in a massage chair, chatting about everything and nothing at the same time.  We laughed about teenage kids and talked about ingrown toenails and ear infections.A few hours later, having missed my class at the gym, I walked back to the car, happy and relaxed.  I came home and sat on my couch.  I only had a couple of hours before the crazy after-school routine would begin...so I went through my 4000+ emails, addressing the ones I needed to, and deleting the others.  I paid a few bills and took care of several items that were in the back of my mind, but had been neglected.I had a day at sea. This time, I didn't hate it.  I actually loved it.DSC_0153 4DSC_0219DSC_0160 4.JPG
